A one-month, self-directed residency for artists making sense of technology in the heart of the Mission. July through December.
This July through December, the Interact 501c3 is piloting its first one-month Studio Residencies in the Mission District of San Francisco. The Interact Studio, an exhibition space established in March 2026, is a new program of Interact — a non-profit now in its 13th year supporting the technology ecosystem through fellowships, community, and local programming. A place for making and sense-making, the Studio asks who a technologist is and what technology is for.
Interact believes artists and physical artifacts have an important role in helping us understand technology and its role in modern life. With the Studio Residency, we're bringing this exploration to the broader public — and hoping to expand our concepts of art, technology, and the ways they can be in dialogue with each other. We invite applicants from all disciplines who are interested in seeing their work engaged in by both the technology ecosystem and our local San Francisco community.
Application
Residency applications are due on August 10th, 2026.
Each Residency lasts for one month, and is designed to be self-directed and public-facing. All Residents selected by the Interact Studio Board will receive Studio access and a production budget, which will culminate in an exhibition, showcase, or performance open to the public during the month of the residency.
As the first-ever Residency in our new Studio, we are especially excited and grateful to be learning alongside you as we design to meet the needs of artists, technologists, and their work.
Studio Residents must be local to the San Francisco Bay Area during the month of their residency and able to commit to ~10/hrs of in-person Studio use a week. All mediums are welcome: sculpture, performing arts, digital media, interactive installations, and beyond. We are particularly interested in artifact-led work with novel perspectives on technology's impact on how we live, work, and think.

Other Resident requirements:
This is a self-directed residency: you conceptualize and execute your own work, with as-needed support from Interact's Studio team. Support from the Interact Studio includes:
A key to the Studio for making, co-working, and exhibiting throughout your month.
Use of the space to install artifacts or host performances.
Studio equipment such as AV support (mics, projector, speakers, etc).
Negotiated budget for materials, production, and event costs.
Open invitation to all Summer events and programs run by Studio tenants, including free weekly live model drawing.
Admission to the larger Interact Fellowship upon completion of your Residency.
The Interact Studio, established in March 2026 in the Mission, is a new program of Interact — a non-profit now in its 13th year, supporting the development of the technology ecosystem through fellowships, community, and local programming. The Studio grows out of our Technology Residency, where programmers, researchers, and artists spend three months exploring technology's impact on subjects including climate, memory, religion, and civic agency.
The Studio is where Interact's Fellowship becomes tangible and interfaces with the public. A place for making and sense-making, the Studio is a playground for dialogue about who a technologist is and what technology is for.
